Concept of explicit verbal communication (“explicature" in Relevance Theory)

Explicature in RT refers to the explicitly communicated content of an utterance, developed by enhancing its linguistically encoded logical form with context-driven inferences, such as disambiguation, reference resolution, and enrichment. It represents the speaker's intended proposition, bridging the gap between sentence meaning and what is said. O processo envolve várias etapas para se chegar à proposição completa:

In a carnival context, when a reveler wearing a king costume tells a friend, “It is too hot here”, an explicit, relevancy-driven interpretation requires:

-Logical Form (Encoded) Decoding: Translating the linguistic sound/text.

-Disambiguation (selecting the correct meaning of ambiguous words): Understanding "here" refers to the crowded parade tent, not the city.

-Reference Assignment (determining who or what is being referred to): Determining "It" refers to the heavy velvet costume they are wearing.

-Enrichment/Narrowing: Strengthening the meaning of general terms): Recognizing "too hot" means "too hot for comfort/safety," not just high temperature. 

This process transforms the literal utterance into the explicit proposition: "The velvet king costume I am wearing is making me uncomfortably warm inside this crowded tent". 

The smaller the relative contribution of inference and the greater the decoding, the more explicit the explicature.

O conceito de comunicação verbal explícita (“Explicature” na Teoria da Relevância)

A comunicação explícita, na Teoria da Relevância (explicature), refere-se ao conteúdo explicitamente comunicado de um enunciado, desenvolvido aprimorando sua forma lógica linguisticamente codificada com inferências orientadas pelo contexto, como desambiguação, resolução de referência e enriquecimento. Ela representa a proposição pretendida pelo falante/escritor, preenchendo a lacuna entre o significado da frase e o que é dito. O processo envolve várias etapas para se chegar à proposição completa:

Em um contexto de carnaval, quando um folião fantasiado de rei diz a um amigo: “Está muito quente aqui”, uma interpretação explícita, orientada pela relevância, requer:

-Decodificação da Forma Lógica (Codificada): Traduzir o som/texto linguístico.

-Desambiguação (selecionar o significado correto de palavras ambíguas): Entender que “aqui” se refere à tenda lotada do desfile, e não à cidade.

-Atribuição de Referência (determinar a quem ou ao que se está referindo): Determinar que “isso”  se refere à pesada fantasia de veludo que a pessoa está vestindo.

-Enriquecimento/Especificação: Fortalecimento do significado de termos gerais: Reconhecer que "muito quente" significa "quente demais para conforto/segurança", e não apenas alta temperatura.

Este processo transforma a expressão literal na proposição explícita: "A fantasia de rei de veludo que estou vestindo está me deixando desconfortavelmente quente dentro desta tenda lotada".

Quanto menor a contribuição relativa da inferência e maior a decodificação, mais explícita será a explicatura.
